In a heartbreaking incident in Kota, Rajasthan, two schoolchildren tragically lost their lives, and over a dozen others were injured when a school van collided head-on with an SUV on Saturday morning, according to police reports.
Authorities and witnesses stated that the accident occurred near the 132 kV grid station in the Etawa police jurisdiction. The school van's tyre reportedly burst, leading the driver to lose control and veer into the opposite lane, resulting in the collision with the SUV.
The force of the impact was so intense that both vehicles overturned, with the SUV being thrown nearly 20 feet off the road. The front of the van was severely damaged, and school supplies were strewn across the area. Local residents, alerted by the sound of the crash and the cries of children, rushed to assist.
Villagers broke the windows of the van to rescue the trapped children and passengers. Emergency services arrived shortly after, and with the help of locals, all injured individuals were transported to the Etawah Sub-District Hospital. Unfortunately, two students were pronounced dead upon arrival. Medical staff indicated that many of the injured suffered from fractures and head injuries and were later transferred to MBS Hospital in Kota for further treatment.
The deceased were students from a private school in Etawa. The crash site was marked by twisted metal and shattered glass, highlighting the severity of the incident. A police officer on the scene indicated that a tyre burst likely caused the driver to lose control, leading to the head-on collision.
As news of the tragedy spread, families gathered at the hospital, where scenes of sorrow unfolded. The anguished cries of parents resonated through the halls as medical personnel worked to care for the injured.
Authorities have confiscated both vehicles and initiated an investigation into the accident's circumstances. This incident has ignited public outrage and raised serious concerns regarding road safety and the maintenance standards of school transport in the area.
